I am sure most of you know, if time permits that you should order your ticket a month ahead so that you can get the advance discount on your purchase. Now, here are a few secrets that I just recently used to get me a pair of low price airline tickets round trip from Houston Texas to San Francisco California.

1. One of the best times to book your flights is between twelve mid-night and and one oclock. Do a test for yourself and see. The price will change just that quickly.

2. If time is not an issue, majority of the time a connecting flight will be much less cheaper than a direct flight. So if you want to save some money grab yourself a connecting flight its only a little inconvenience.

3. Certain dates traveling will be cheaper than others. Use the date tools that are provided to you at travel sites like Travelocity, Hotwire, and Expedia. You are going to save money by traveling on certain dates so do that research before.

4. I bet that you did not know round trips are sometimes cheaper than one way flights. When booking your flight check them both out you might just surprise yourself and save money at the same time.

Purchasing airline tickets will be much easier following these secrets. It should no longer be that, your are going to take a family vacation if you can afford it this year.

I have just shared with you four ways that you can grab a hold of those airline tickets for a low price. Do not let the price of flying stop from traveling anywhere you wanna go now.

Do yourself a favor and stop spending hundred of dollars and airline tickets.

I

Seeking to complete its family of quad-engined, long-range 707s and tri-engined, medium-range 727s with a twin-engined, short-range airliner, and capture some of the market already filled by the similarly-configured SE.210 Caravelle, BAC-111, and DC-9, Boeing had designed a low-wing aircraft which had deviated from these competing designs by using the same fuselage cross-section as its larger counterparts’, retaining their six-abreast coach seating and attaching its engines to the wing underside, obviating the need for the t-tail. That aircraft had been designated “737.”

Intended for the same short-sector, high-frequency routes as these other twinjets, it employed a wing short enough to reduce drag, structure weight, and direct operating costs, yet long enough to house the fuel capacity required for its intended sector lengths. Because these had been envisioned as relatively short, high cruise speeds had been less pivotal to the design than those of its long-range models. Although the wing-attached engines had resulted in some degree of lift loss compared to the now-standard, aft, fuselage-mounted powerplant configuration of the other twins, Boeing had been able to counteract this tendency with both leading and trailing edge high-lift devices on the wing.

Citing the design’s commonality with its other Boeing types, and conceding that its existing 727s had offered excess capacity, particularly on internal German routes, Lufthansa had become the launch customer for the 737 in its initial version as the 737-100 when it had placed an order for 21 on February 19, 1965.

First flying in prototype form two years later, on April 9, and registered N73700, it had entered scheduled service on February 10, 1968, powered by two 14,000 thrust-pound Pratt and Whitney JT8D-7 engines and able to accommodate up to 103 single-class passengers. A slightly stretched version, the 737-200, had been launched with an order for 40 from United Airlines, and had first flown on August 8, 1967. The elongated version, with longer engine nacelles, had a maximum capacity of 130 and entered service the following year on April 28.

Despite a meager production run of only 30 for the former, the latter, particularly in its later “Advanced” guise, had achieved an impressive 1,114 sales, having earned it the title of world’s “fasted selling” twinjet.

In order to incorporate evolving technology, improve performance, and reduce operating costs, Boeing offered yet a third basic version, the type’s first significant upgrade and second passenger capacity increase.

Integral to both had been the new-technology, high bypass ratio turbofan which had offered greater thrust, lower fuel consumption, and reduced noise, eliminating the need for a costly redesign of the existing wing and hence restricting the development program’s costs to the 0 million level. Unlike the narrower JT8D engine, however, the new turbofan featured a larger diameter and could no longer be directly attached to the wing underside, requiring, instead, attachment by means of a pylon, a configuration which left inadequate ground clearance without an equally costly main undercarriage strut lengthening and redesign.

Only close cooperation between Boeing and CFM International, intended engine manufacturer, could result in a co-solution to the engineering obstacles. The engine itself, the CFM56, had first run in June of 1974 after a considerable development period and had first become airborne on a McDonnell-Douglas YC-15, later also doing so in France mounted to a Caravelle. Retrofitted to the Super DC-8 as the CFM56-2, at which time the aircraft had been redesignated the DC-8-70 series, it had produced 24,000 pounds of thrust. At reduced rating, as the CFM56-3, it had been targeted at the new 737 version.

Relocating the ancillary equipment ordinarily installed in an engine’s top and bottom portions, CFM International had redimensioned it to one of oval shape with an almost flat underside, reducing its diameter and therefore increasing its ground clearance, while Boeing had pylon-mounted it at a slight angle in order to avoid wing underside and trailing edge heat and exhaust interference. The configuration, which had placed most of the turbofan ahead of the leading edge and had resulted in downwardly canted thrust efflux, had liberated previously unusable wing volume for increased fuel tankage, indirectly increasing the aircraft’s range. Coupled with a lengthened, repositioned nose gear strut, the arrangement had produced a 28-inch engine-to-ground clearance, which had been only two inches shorter than the 30 provided by the much narrower JT8D nacelle.

In order to counter the additional weight exerted on approach speeds, a new leading edge slat, running between the engine pylon and the wing tip and featuring double the area of the precedent 737-200’s, increased the chord by four percent, permitting an approach speed which had been only five knots higher than that of the earlier version and raising its altitude capability by 4,000 feet.

Program launch, on March 5, 1981, preceded actual first orders, by USAir and Southwest Airlines, by three weeks. The first roll-out, occurring three years later, on January 17, 1984, in Renton, Washington, of the prototype, which, for the second time, bore the N73700 registration originally assigned to the 737-100, initially took to the skies the following month, on February 24, attaining a 29,000-foot altitude and completing a successful two-hour, 56-minute maiden flight. FAA type certification, following a three-aircraft, 1,294-hour flight test program, had been attained on November 14 for an aircraft which had not only met new stringent noise level regulations, but had demonstrated greater performance and economy than calculated during its design phase.

The third basic version of the 737 family, designated 737-300, featured a fail-safe aluminum fuselage with a nominal, 8.8-foot extension over that of the 737-200, comprised of 3.8 feet ahead of the wing and five feet along its trailing edge, and resulting in a 109.7-foot overall length and a modest, 19-passenger capacity increase.

The cabin, incorporating larger, redesigned overhead storage compartments and revised lighting, standardly accommodates eight first class, two-two arranged seats at a 36-inch pitch and 120 economy class, three-three arranged seats at a 32-inch pitch. A maximum of 149, single-class, exit-limited passengers can alternatively be accommodated in a single-class configuration at a 32-inch seat pitch. Underfloor baggage, cargo, and mail holds are located forward and aft of the wing.

Cockpit commonality with the earlier 737 versions had been deliberately retained in order to facilitate a common type rating.

The aluminum alloy, two-spar wing, with a 94.9-foot span, features 11-inch tip extensions, a 4.4-percent leading edge extension and a lateral control spoiler panel outboard of the engines, and a new flap section and track fairing aft of them. Low-speed, high-lift devices include inboard, leading edge Krueger flaps; outboard, three-section, leading edge slats; and trailing edge, triple-slotted flaps. Three outboard, powered, overwing spoiler panels, of aluminum honeycomb, augment lateral control and act as inflight airbrakes and ground-based spoilers, while graphite composite ailerons provide roll control. Wing and fuselage center section tanks house 5,311 US gallons of fuel.

A variable incidence tailplane, whose span is greater than that of the earlier 737-200, is activated by two electric motors, with manual standby reversion capability, while the vertical tail introduced a dorsal fin atop the fuselage in order to counteract engine loss-created asymmetric thrust conditions.

All surfaces are hydraulically actuated and operate off of two independent systems.

The equally, hydraulically retractable and extendible, dual-wheeled, tricycle undercarriage is devoid of wheel well doors on its main units, their wheels forming aerodynamic seals in the stored position. The design decreases weight and fosters simplicity of operation and ease of maintenance access.

Power is provided by two thrust-reverser equipped CFM International CFM56-3C-1 turbofans, each rated at 20,000 pounds of thrust.

The basic gross weight variant, at a 124,500-pound take off weight, features a 1,625-mile range, while the high gross weight option, at 138,500 pounds, produces a 2,260-mile range.

II

A representative round-trip flight, from New York/La Guardia to Chicago/O’Hare with United Airlines, illustrates the typical two-hour sectors for which the 737-300 had been designed.

After some two hours of taxiing parallel to both the active (13-31) and the nonactive (4-22) runway at La Guardia Airport amid 50 other aircraft, most of which awaited westbound air traffic control clearances through the weather-obstacled Cleveland Center corridor, the United Airlines 737-300 followed a US Airways Express DHC-8-100 on to Runway 13, conducting its acceleration roll and rotating. Instructed to “contact departure,” Flight 695 maneuvered into a tight left bank over Flushing Bay and the East River, as the Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridges, draped in white light necklaces, passed below and beyond the left wing.

Given successive altitude clearances, from 5,000 through 9,000, 10,000, and 15,000 feet, the aircraft banked to a 320-degree heading, contacting New York Center on 132.6, and was cleared to its first VOR at a “climb and maintain” flight level of 230. After a 280-knot speed restriction, the 737 had been cleared to 36,000 feet and contacted Cleveland Center. A full orange moon, hovering above the left wing tip, faintly illuminated the thick cumulonimbus cloud deck below.

Speed brakes permitted rapid, initial descent 70 miles from O’Hare International Airport. Plying the moon-illuminated, silver skies, the aircraft briefly raced across the fluffy cumulous tops before plunging into them at 10,000 feet. United 695 contacted Chicago Approach Control.

The moon, periodically visible through the broken cloud deck, transformed the sky into a silver-and-black Halloween-scape on the other side of midnight. Instructed to “descend and maintain 6,000,” the 737 momentarily turned left to 200 degrees before almost immediately banking right to a heading of 220. Maintaining 4,000 feet to the ADAM VOR, United 695 intercepted the ILS to Runway 27L, subsequently contacting the Chicago tower and completing its undercarriage and flap extension sequencing.

The orange geometric pattern of ground lights appeared through the mist as the aircraft commenced its flap and undercarriage sequencing. Applying partial power and maintaining a 135-knot approach speed, it passed over the blue-bordered taxiway patterns of the field and flared on to the runway during the wee hours of the morning.

Pushed back from Gate C31 amid a glowing copper dusk the following day on the return sector, the United Airlines 737-300, operating as Flight 690, commenced a lengthy taxi roll to the pad just short of runways 22L and 27L, where air traffic control restrictions necessitated its engine shut down for 30 minutes, before being granted take off clearance on the former of the two runways.

Contacting Chicago Departure Control and rolling into a tight left bank over the ground lights, the aircraft was instructed to “climb and maintain” 8,000 feet, cleared to its initial VOR. The orange, rectangular light geometries yielded to the black, referenceless surface of Lake Michigan. Angling from 10,800 to 13,000 feet, the 737 contacted Chicago Center on 126.47. Huge, moonlit cumulous mountains moved under the right wing as the aircraft was cleared to 35,000 feet.

Contacting Cleveland Center on 133.07, the aircraft rode “light chop” and was instructed to reduce speed to Mach .74 “for spacing.” Contact with New York Center, on 128.57, subsequently followed. A published hold at the MILTON VOR, with a 0345 Zulu release time, had been canceled before reaching it, although the 737 reduced speed to minimize its then anticipated hold time upon reaching it.

Now cleared to La Guardia via Milton 3, the aircraft, maintaining 280 knots, was instructed to cross the Mark intersection at flight level 190, and then “descend and maintain” 10,000 feet and reduce speed to 250 knots. Contacting New York Approach on 127.43, Flight 690 was given the altimeter of “29.64” and requested to maintain a heading of 120 degrees and “reduce speed to 180 knots.”

Instructed “direct to Green and intercept the localizer,” the 737 was cleared for an ILS approach to Runway 4. The full moon, now visible through the thin, sheath-like clouds, assumed an apparitional profile.

Handed off to the tower, the aircraft was advised of “wind 090 at 5.” Breaking free of the cloud cover, now with fully extended leading and trailing edge wing devices, it emerged above the ground lights of Jackson Heights, knifing through strong, slanting rain and rolling on its longitudinal axis as it counteracted winds.

Cleared to land, it passed over the black, reflective Grand Central Parkway, flaring on to the wet runway surface with a bounce before its raised spoilers firmly implanted it groundward.

When Boeing had rolled out its last, intermittently designated “Classic” 737, a 737-400, inRenton, Washington, it had achieved an impressive production milestone of having built 1,113 737-300s, 486 longer-fuselage 737-400s, and 389 shorter-fuselage 737-500s. In 1991, it had reached a peak of 21 aircraft completed each month. When these production figures include the 30 “First Generation” 737-100s and 1,114 737-200s, the 3,132 aircraft collectively produced had qualified the short-range, low-capacity twinjet as the world’s best-selling commercial airliner. Usurped by the “Next Generation” 737-600, -700, -800, and -900, the basic design created to complete its family and compete with the then current twinjets, which had all since been removed from production, had achieved every goal its engineers had inceptionally set, as evidenced by the more than 6,000 airframes sold and the global coverage of their routes, which result in a take off or landing every few seconds, somewhere in the world, 24 hours per day.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Eco-Friendly Travel
Looking for luxury travel that’s eco-friendly? Silverjet, a new British airline, is striving to become the world leader in environmentally friendly business-class travel. Included in every ticket price is a carbon offset fee, which is put into green projects such as wind farms or energy efficient projects. And since the carrier flies a single aircraft fleet of 767’s with configuration of just one class, they can pass savings onto passengers. Currently, the airline is only from New York City to London.

True In-Flight Comfort
Delta is now offering personal sleepers in their international business class – the first U.S. carrier to do so. The lie-flat seats recline into a 6-foot 3-inch bed and also feature an entertainment system, digital music and video, a privacy screen, video monitor, footrest, and personal cargo compartment.

Strap in the Kiddies
It’s about time! The FAA just approved a child restraint device that is making the lives of traveling parents easier. The Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES) provides the safety of a car seat without the boarding hassles. The system is small enough to fit in your pocket and easy to install. The straps latch around the back of the seat, creating a shoulder harness and the lower part attaches right to the seat belt.

Privacy, Please
Delta Airlines is installing the Cozy Suite on its international 767’s and 777’s. The design has staggered seating, providing privacy and wrapped chairs designed at the perfect angle for sleeping. Unfortunately, they won’t be installed until 2010.

Paper Shampoo
Yes, it is actually called Paper Shampoo and it’s one company’s answer to the recent liquid restrictions on airplanes. If you are flying without checking luggage, this unique shampoo solution is just what you need – all you do is mix the sheet with water and it dissolves into a lather.

Electrical Circuit Test
On a more serious note, an advanced detection device is furthering airplane safety. An electrical circuit test can detect and locate faulty wiring in airplanes, which is often hard to detect even during routine maintenance checks. The device is much more cost-efficient than troubleshooting problems that arise from faulty wiring and can prevent the grounding of entire fleets.

Surfing Sky-High
American Airlines is the latest in a string of carriers that will now be offering wireless internet on-board. Not only would this provide entertainment on long, boring flights, but business travelers could be much more productive.

Realising the Challenges of Crew Rosterers in the Major Airlines

Travellers and consumers in the United Kingdom often see the public face of the airlines as ticket agents, flight attendants, and pilots. However, there are many more professionals that make the UK airline industry work efficiently. Baggage handlers allow people to have all of their possessions by the time they land at their destination. Mechanics keep airliners safe and sound for millions of travellers every year. Perhaps the most overlooked professional in the major airlines is that of the crew roster manager. Crew rosters establish the crew rotation and schedule for an airline. Young professionals entering this job need to understand the challenges faced on a daily basis before heading into the workplace.

Crew rosters start with the basic challenge of meeting national and international aviation regulations in setting up schedules. Flight crews need to be in the air under a certain number of hours each day and need days off after a certain number of days on the job. As well, rosters need to stay updated on health issues with individual workers as well as vacation days mandated by a professional’s contract. In all, there are a number of bureaucratic land mines in which a crew rosterer needs to avoid in setting up a daily schedule.

Beyond regulatory issues, crew rosters also need to take into account heavy and slow seasons for an airline. There are many times in the year where additional crews are needed and maintenance staff needs to be increased to deal with heavier traffic for an airline. Winter and summer holiday seasons require more flights and a higher number of mechanics to keep up with routine procedures. The bureaucratic and chronological issues involved with crew rostering in the United Kingdom are quite daunting for even the best crew rosterer.

More experienced crew rosterers would tell those just entering the profession that it is not all regulatory guidelines and holiday breaks. Crew rosterers need to develop a keen sense of putting the right people on various flights and on various projects. For example, a rosterer for an international airline needs to look at the experience level of various flight crews to determine their ability to deal with more difficult routes. Routes from London to place in Asia and Africa require experienced pilots and flight attendants who are accustomed to long flights. Rosterers can let younger crews get flights under their belt on European flights or regional flights. This nuanced approach to rostering comes with experience, though young professionals can begin to develop this knowledge by asking their supervisors and studying the rostering process.

Penny Pinchers Guide To Grabbing Cheap Airline Tickets

It was my very first time travelling out of the UK and I wanted to see some of Europe. I think this is important so that I can boast to my children that I have seen a bit of the world even though it is just Europe. Step one; it seemed to me was to get as a cheap flight to Europe. The trouble was however in getting my airfares to come down from the high heavens in terms of price. I struggled to rearrange my budget and accommodate the scary costs of the airline tickets and realize my goal of having cheap holidays. I was really running scared and asking myself how on earth I was going to make it out of England and through just two countries with the kind of prices I was seeing. A friend suggested that I focus on getting cheap airline tickets. Really? I wanted to know what part of England I had to stand to get such cheapest flights rain to fall on me. Luckily for me, she is the patient type and took my sarcasm in good faith.
According to her, getting cheap flights is much easier than I imagine. Imagine? I didn’t even think it possible. Okay, where do I start from? I wanted to know. She wanted to know if I preferred to travel in premium class. Certainly not. In comfort, yes but except the first class tickets are free, cut that out. Okay, I she advised me to explore the option of travelling via an alternative route. It works this way she explained. I could just fly into Spain and from there to Italy on a low cost airline instead of taking an expensive flight direct into Italy. Hmmm…wouldn’t have occurred to me in a thousand years. Using cheapest airfare airlines as connecting flights can save a lot of money she added.
She wanted to know where I wanted to visit in Europe. Well, I had Spain, Greece, France and Italy penciled down. Well since I was not looking for cheap flights to Dubai, why not check the foreign websites of the airlines I wish to use for cheaper fares particularly as those countries have currencies weaker than the pound sterling? That way I get to compare flight price. She had provided another thought that would not occurred to me. She had saved loads of money that way. She simply booked her flight on the foreign counterparts of the country she intended to visit.
Okay, I had a year of school to go right? I answered in the affirmative (as she didn’t know, after all we were classmates). Students she informed me, have discounts on airlines and stuff like that. She directed me to STA Travels for more inquiries. She had personally cashed in on this discounts on many occasions by simply tendering her students ID Card. Imagine that! And mine has been just a piece of plastic in my pocket all this while. Wow, now I can compare holidays with my better traveled friends.
Last point she made was to inform me to watch the time I decide to travel. Since I just wanted to travel and get to know places, it was not important that I go in the peak period. Why not just compare cheap flights, go in the off-peak period and get the lower prices? Wow! Did I need any more prompting? Europe, here I come.

Flying With Pets – How Can You Keep Your Pet Safe and Healthy on Airline Flights?

If you have plans to fly with your pet, you are part of a growing trend that has been increasing for the last number of years. Most airlines will charge a nominal fee to allow your small pet to accompany you, if it will fit into a FAA approved pet carrier that is small enough to stow under your seat. The following important info can help you keep your pet safe, healthy, and happy on airplane flights

When booking a flight, it is a good idea to make reservations for yourself and your pet as early as possible. You must let the airline know that you want to bring your pet with you. It is very important to tell them, as they will only allow a limited number of pets on each flight. Some airlines do not allow pets at all, especially on international flights. Always confirm your flight the day before you leave on your trip. If you are traveling internationally you need to confirm your reservation seventy-two hours before you go.

Before you fly into the wide blue yonder with your furry travel companion, you need to take him or her to the veterinarian for a checkup, to make sure he or she is healthy enough to travel. You will also need to take its health certificate with you, showing that your pet is up-to-date on all its vaccinations, including rabies. Your pet must wear its current vaccination tag when traveling. As well, your pet must meet the health regulations of every country that you will be traveling to. Bring along a copy of your pet’s medical records listing its allergies, chronic medical conditions, and medications.

If you haven’t done this already, you should have your pet micro-chipped. That way, if your pet is lost and taken to an animal shelter or vet, where its chip can be scanned, both can be reunited. Keep in mind your pet’s identification tag will have both your home address and phone number on it. That won’t be of much help if your pet gets lost when you are on vacation. It may be a good idea to get another tag made up that has your destination address and phone number on it. What happens if you pet isn’t found until after you’ve returned from your holidays? It makes sense that you should leave both your home I.D. tag on your pet as well as attaching the new tag. That way you’ll have all the bases covered and stand a better chance of being reunited with your pet

You should carry a picture of you pet with you when you travel. It will help you prove that you are the pet’s owner if any problems of ownership occur. Also, the picture can be used to make some flyers up to post in the area where your pet was lost.

Flying with pets that are too large to fit into a FAA approved pet carrier is not a good idea as they will be stowed in the cargo hold. Putting your pet in the cargo hold of an aircraft is very traumatic and dangerous to its health. It makes far more sense to leave your pet with a friend, or a pet sitting service while you are vacation.

The American Veterinary Medical Association does not recommend sedating or tranquilizing your pet when flying, especially dogs. Dogs regulate their body temperature when they pant, so when they are tranquilized or sedated, they may not be able to pant. If this happens, it may leave them defenseless against the fluctuation of air pressure and temperature that occurs in the cargo hold of every flight. Also, keep in mind that pets do not enjoy flying, or being locked up in a cramped kennel and left alone in a dark and desolate cargo hold. It must be very terrifying for them.

There are a lot of websites that give additional valuable information in regards to traveling with your pet. Two excellent sites are the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) at aspca.org, and the Department of Agriculture at aphis.usda.gov, which has a great article entitled, Traveling With Your Pet.

If you want a great travel carrier for your small pet, you may want to consider the popular, FAA approved pet carrier, Sherpa On Wheels. This Cadillac of pet carriers can be a luxurious and comfortable home for your pet while flying. It has the convenience of a front and top entry, mesh ventilation panels, recessed wheels, as well as a detachable pull handle and a shoulder strap. It is available on line at SherpaPet.com.

Continental Airlines 757-200 SAN Departure and EWR Arrival IN THIS VIDEO, you will see video that I shot while coming home from the 2009 MCAS Miramar Airshow. This was shot from a Boeing 757-200 with winglets and is shown departing from San Diego Lindbergh Field’s Runway 27, a climbout that shows a good portion of the city, and arriving into Newark Liberty International Airport’s Runway 22L. I apologize for the fact that it’s a dark video, as I took a red eye flight back, as it was the most conveinent flight for my schedule, as I did not want to spend an extra night in San Diego and fly home on Monday and thus, lose an entire day due to traveling back home. While I’m not a fan of red eye flights because I can’t sleep well on airplanes, it worked out well for me in terms of schedule. This video was shot with a small point & shoot digital camera, so I apologize for thequality. If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate “version” of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation – including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve’s Airshow World at www.stevesairshow.com .

Fractional Seat Ownership FSO Welcome to MyJets, MyJets, Inc has developed a new air transportation model called FSO (Fractional Seat Ownership), a new concept which redefines the future of private air travel. The MyJets business model is unique and focused on saving time for a busy executive who needs to travel weekly between two locations that are within 500 miles of each other without having to charter a whole aircraft, buy a fractional ownership of a whole aircraft or be forced to fly on a commercial carrier. The price per flight is comparable to an airline ticket, and the Investment for the Fractional Ownership of the Seat and the monthly fee for management and maintenance are easily justified by the timesavings achieved. MyJets allows the executive who travels weekly to the same destination, the opportunity to buy a share on an airplane corresponding to his/her own seat. This is an inexpensive way to benefit from all the advantages of a private jet without the cost. The MyJets model has most of the cost and frequency advantages of the commercial airline, while having the comfort, security, and speed advantages of the private air charter. (Please read well this is fractional ownership) The target customer is the executive who does not live close to one of the 500 airports serviced by commercial airlines and who wastes hours driving to the airport, parking, checking in, going through security, getting a rental car and then driving to the destination. For example …

How to Get Super Cheap Domestic Airfare

Obtaining cheap domestic flights does not have to be difficult. You can find airfare bargains in a number of ways.

Saving money on airfare requires you to have a little patience and be willing to do some searching. Surfing some travel sites online may be a good start, but to find the best fares you may have to go beyond this. There are actually a few good strategies for finding cheap domestic flights. If you are looking for better airfares, whether you are traveling domestically or abroad, the following tips will help you.

When buying your tickets ask about discounts for your age group. Senior citizens, children, and students are often offered discounts on ticket prices. Depending on the package you purchase, children under a certain age may fly free. If you have a child who is a college student, they may also qualify for a discounted rate. It is worth the time to ask about any specials. The worst that can happen is that the person on the other end of the phone or internet will say no. The airline is not going to refuse to let you fly just because you asked about getting a discount. When looking for cheap flights, simply asking is the most direct method.

By setting up e-mail alerts, you can find better fares. This will give you up to the minute information about any good deals for when and where you want to travel. Last minute or standby flights are often heavily discounted, and you can also ask for alerts from the airlines about these. to various locations where you don’t have a lot of time to plan. If you fly frequently, you may also want to book more than one flight at a time when you get an e-mail alert for an especially good deal. Over time, having access to this kind of information can save you thousands.

There are some airlines that only operate in certain regions of the country. If you can, go through an airline that only services the area you are traveling in. If you plan to travel throughout the southwestern states, look into getting your tickets through Southwest Airlines, for example. If you can’t afford to fly one of the major airlines, there are These airlines offer fewer frills and perks but the savings is worth it. The savings of a couple hundred dollars outweighs getting an in flight snack, right?

It does not need to be hard to get cheap flights. Using your common sense when shopping for airfare is what it’s all about. How do you obtain good rates on other things you buy? Research!!! Shopping for airfare is not different. This article has given you the knowledge you need to save yourself alot of money on travel plans.

1. Keeping yourself updated with the latest news of airfares will help you grab any kind of opportunity given out to you. Watching news and reading newspaper will help you to be updated. At times there are promotions whereby the tickets are sold in cheaper rates for a limited time so if you are updated with it then you can surely grab this opportunity if nit suits you. There are also many new companies staring the business of selling airline tickets so in the beginning in order to advertise their company they first sell tickets in a discounted price to attract the customers. So find out if there is any thing given through the advertisements suits you. Check out Tickets at <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.ticketfront.com/”>http://ticketfront.com/</a>

2. You must be flexible while deciding on which days to travel since the cost of the tickets also depends on the days of the week a well in which part of the day are you traveling i.e. in the dawn, at noon, evening or during night. There are days like Sunday, Monday and Fridays where more people are likely to travel so the ticket are much costlier while Tuesdays, Thursdays are the days where less people travel so you can get the tickets in cheaper rates. Early morning and late night flights are said to be cheaper than the afternoon and evening flights.

3. You may ask the airline person whether they offer any travel packages or not along with the ticket like rental car, hotel room at a discounted price. You can save some amount of money if there is any kind of service you are getting.

4. While buying the ticket ask the ticket person whether they have any other option to fly in much cheaper rates or not. You can also take the help of the net and look into the different site where they tell you about the cost about the tickets. Differentiate it with the other site and see which falls into your budget.

Always buy tickets through consolidators since they buy loads of <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.ticketfront.com/”>tickets</a> and sell them at a cheaper price in order to help the airline fill all the available seats. You can check the travel section of the newspaper under the name ‘Ticket consolidators’.

6. By booking earlier you can also save a mot of money. You can get discounts on tickets if you book a reserved ticket a number of days ahead. If you want to travel during the holidays then you must book the tickets in much advance all the more.

Our sleepless and tired pilots are constantly stressed by their long hours and the constant interruptions of their sleep cycles due to time zone changes. Some of those pilots will now add the effects of antidepressant medications to the list of factors that can affect their abilities to react to unexpected challenges in flight. Will the new policy spell an increase in the number of human error caused disasters?

Greg Griffin in an article in the Denver Post asserts, “Human error factors were cited as the primary problem in 74 commercial aviation safety incidents reported at Denver International Airport since 2005, according to a NASA database of voluntary, anonymous reports from pilots and others.” A joint report from the FAA and the aviation industry concluded that, “loss of control accidents – in which the crew was unable to recover from an unexpected event such as engine failure or a stall – accounted for 42 percent of commercial aviation fatalities worldwide from 1999 through 2008, more than any other cause.” Human factors such as sleep deprivation, mental distractions, scheduling, and training are all contributing factors. The United Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority reported last year that “flight crews were the primary cause of two-thirds of fatal commercial and business plane crashes worldwide from 1997 through 2006.” Our own FAA found in a 2006 study that “from 1990 to 2002, 45 percent of major airline accidents in the United States and 75 percent of commuter-carrier crashes were associated with human error.”

The February 2009 crash of Colgan Air’s Flight 3407 in Buffalo NY, killing 50 people, was attributed to fatigue, training, and pay. The NTSB attributed most of the blame to the lack of proper simulator training. The lack of proper simulator training also was a factor in the 2001 crash of an American Airlines A300-600 that killed 265 people.

An October 2009 Delta Airlines plane with 182 passengers landed safely on a taxiway at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. The FAA is still investigating this case where fatigue from a ten hour flight and the distraction of a medical emergency on board could have caused the serious error.

The Northwest Airlines A320 overshot runway incident in October 2009 at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport has been attributed to distraction, but sleeping on board was also suggested. The pilot and copilot claimed they were busy on their laptops, but air traffic controllers were not able to contact the plane for an hour and eighteen minutes. The plane had been at risk of being shot down by fighter planes dispatched in a concern over a possible high jacking.

With all of these stats supporting the conclusion that most airline disasters are caused by human error, it seems incomprehensible that the FAA would add the side effects of antidepressants to the already growing problems of fatigue, stress, and sleep deprivation. The dangerous side effects of antidepressant prescriptions are well documented. The dangers disclosed on the labels of Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Lexapro are enough to stoke fears in the most confident air travelers. Randy Babbitt, FAA Administrator, responsible for the change reversing policy in effect for more than 70 years, chooses “culture change” and a new, more tolerant view of those affected by depression over and above the public safety he is charged to protect. How many lost lives in future disasters will be required before we return to time tested policy?

Flying For a Regional Airline, Is It Worth It?

In the United States, and else where around the world, salary is usually dependent upon one major factor. That is, how many people can perform that particular job. The fewer the number of people that can perform a particular job, usually the greater the salary. In many cases, salary is not dependent upon how much money was used in order to obtain the skill.

A good example of this can be seen if we look at the salaries seen in professional sports. For example, in the NFL, professional football players can make millions of dollars per year, yet the preparation does not cost much money in relative terms. To play in the NFL really comes down to hard physical work, developing mental toughness, extreme dedication, and having the physical attributes and ability.

Not to many people can play in the NFL, and therefore most players enjoy a pretty good salary. The minimum salary of a rookie in the NFL is 5,000.00 per year. The highest salary for an NFL player in 2008 was seen in the form of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, of Pittsburgh at ,701,920.00. It also should be stated that the average length of a career for an NFL player is only around 4 years.

Regional airline pilots on the other hand will spend anywhere from ,000 and up in order to be properly trained to fly an airplane. This includes Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating, and Commercial Pilot License, plus specific training needed for the regional airline they wish to fly for. Military pilots on the other hand have their training paid for by the American tax payer, which really is the ideal situation for those who aspire to become a professional pilot.

Keeping with the analogy of the professional football player, we need to ask the question, how many people can fly an airplane? Statistically, not to many. But if trained, most people with a little better then average intelligence, can learn how to fly. It really comes down to having enough money to learn.

So becoming a professional football player, most would agree, is more difficult and fewer people in society are able to do this, and the professional football player salary reflects this. The salary of a professional football player should be substantially higher then that of a pilot, and it is. Most aspiring professional pilots understand this. The question really should be, is the very low salary of the regional airline pilot worth it to the aspiring pilot who wants to fly for the major airlines, where the higher salaries exist?

From a purely financial perspective, if you always wanted to be a pilot, and you have the money to train, then it probably is worth it. But there are other considerations which must be looked at if you desire to fly for a major airline some day.

It really comes down to being able to withstand the rigors of regional airline flying. To start, some regional airline pilots only make ,000 a year. These are the new pilots, and they usually need to supplement their income with other work in order to make a living. Some regional airline pilots just starting out, can make ,000 to ,000. But no matter how you slice it, the regional airline pilot salary is low relative to other occupations which require a high level of responsibility.

There are other rigors which are not only pay related. In many cases, a regional airline pilot’s base airport is far away from where he or she lives, and they may need to commute across the country in order to get to their base airport for an assigned flight.

This long commute, coupled with the need in many cases to supplement their income with some other work, can result in fatigue, which can lower the level of safety needed. With these additional rigors, some may ask, is it really worth it to become a major airline pilot.

To answer this question you need to examine why you go into a particular career in the first place. Is it for the money, or is it because you love the work. While the rigors of regional airline flying may not be suitable for some people, many pilots stick out simply because they truly love to fly. They also stick it out because of the financial commitment they have made. If your desire to fly is enough such that you can withstand the period of regional airline flying, then it is probably worth it.

Remember that flying for a regional carrier is sort of like paying your dues. Many people ask, how can a regional pilot get paid less then a taxi driver in New York, which by the way gets paid on average .00 per hour. As a matter of fact, there are many jobs which provide a higher pay compared to the regional airline pilot. Lets look at another profession which has low pay to start, and in order to work in that profession, you need to pay a lot of money in order to be properly trained for the position.

A doctor spends a minimum of 11 years in education and training after the age of 18. Many are in training for 15 or more years. They are living on student loans and contributing zero to their family’s income until the residency years. During residency, they earn less than minimum wage, if you factor in the 80-100 hour work week. When a doctor emerges from training (and believe me, there is less sex and fun than is portrayed on ER or Gross Anatomy) he or she averages 0K in debt. Most doctors after residency make a good salary, with salary dependent on the specialty the doctor has chosen to work in.

So some might say, is it worth it to become a doctor. Doctors are also responsible for the lives of people, as are regional airline pilots. Most doctors go into the profession because they enjoy helping people, at least we hope that is the case. If not, there are other much more lucrative jobs in the financial sector, such as being a stock broker or money manager.

So what does all of this lead to. Is it worth the lower pay, sleeping in crash pads during over night stays, possible fatigue, and long commutes, in order to fly as a regional airline pilot. If it is a stepping stone to something bigger and better, such as flying for the major airlines, then most pilots believe that it is worth it. If it appears as if you will not be able to move onward and upward, then most pilots will strongly consider some other form of flying, or leave it all together. These are the considerations an aspiring professional pilot must look at before a financial commitment to training.

You should go into a career because you enjoy the work. If you enjoy the work, the pay will follow. In the case of becoming a major airline pilot, if you are willing to endure the hardships of regional airline flying, you love to fly, and there is absolutely nothing else in the world that you would rather do, then the professional airline pilot as a career is something to consider.

How Can You Lessen the Odds of the Airlines Losing Your Luggage When You Travel?

It is estimated that more than a million bags are lost by commercial airlines each year in the United States alone. How much luggage that get lost in the whole world is anybody’s guess. Here are some tips that may help you recover your bags if they are ever lost.

Attach two or three tags with your name, home address, and phone number to the handle and the zipper-pulls of each bag that you are checking. There is less of a chance that all of the tags could get torn off during transit. You should make sure that you have removed any old airline tags that are still attached to the luggage you’re checking as they could confuse the baggage handlers.

Be sure to place the same contact information, including a copy of your itinerary and your destination address inside each piece luggage. That way, if they do get lost and are found in time, they could be forwarded to your hotel.

If you can, pick luggage with preferably a bright or odd color that will stand out from all of the black and brown bags. Know the brand name of the luggage that you own and attach a colorful scarf or ribbon to the handle to make identification easier. Stick a few decals or a contrasting colored tape to all of the sides of the bags so they can be easier to see as it goes around the carousel. Remember these details, or even better, take a digital picture of your luggage just before you leave and bring it with you. This will also help the lost luggage airport staff in finding your bags if they become lost in transit and turn up at their office. It will also help if you have to make a claim.

It helps to make a list of what you have in your luggage and carry that list in you carry-on bag. The chance of your luggage getting lost in transit increases dramatically when you have connecting, or delayed flights. Always pack all of your valuables, including your laptop or Blackberry, travel documents, prescriptions, etc., in your carry-on bag. It makes sense to pack only the things you can afford to lose in your checked baggage. Most analysts believe that the airline industry’s problem of lost luggage is not going to be resolved anytime soon.

What should you do your luggage gets lost?

Go immediately to the baggage claim office and file your claim. Many airlines have a twenty-four hour window of time starting from when your flight arrives to file a claim and be eligible for compensation. Get a claim receipt and check the tracking of your luggage with the airline by phone, or on the airline’s website. Make sure you keep all your flight documents until the lost luggage problem has been resolved.

How can you guarantee that the airlines won’t lose your luggage?

There are some companies like FedEx, UPS or DHL, that can send your luggage in the U.S. directly to your hotel or street address for a very reasonable cost. If you’re staying at a hotel, your luggage will be taken to your room by a bellboy. When you consider that in the United States alone, over a million bags are lost by the airlines each year, this service is well worth considering. If you are planning to travel by air throughout Europe, FirstLuggage.com, provides a similar service.

When To Buy Airline Tickets Tactics

Cheapest days to fly stands out as the thing almost all regular travelers want to know for certain. This brief article is going to tell you precisely when are the cheapest days to fly. On top of that I will provide you with more swindles, tips and tricks to give you the ability to help you to get insanely cheap plane tickets to absolutely any location in the world. There is certainly a lot more to finding cheap airline tickets than simply purchasing at the perfect time. Once you learn how you can adjust the online purchasing programs in your favor, you can truly open yourself up to some exceptionally cheap flight tickets.

Cheapest days to take a flight stats can be acquired online for free with farecast.com. This fabulous website has extensive historical data regarding airline ticket prices of the majority of the leading airlines. This data may therefore be helpful to ascertain when is actually the best time to buy flight tickets to achieve the very best deals. By simply looking at the old reports and visual material you can fairly accurately work out the prices of future airfares. Just about every commercial airline will present a different sequence regarding air travel prices, so simply by using farecast you are able to render yourself the best possibility of predicting the most cost effective days of the week to take a flight relating to the specific airline you happen to be targeting. The amount of time put in doing this little bit of investigating will save you a considerable amount of cash, hence, is worth the time and effort. This is especially true regarding air carriers that you might use frequently merely because when you know more about the way they offer their deals the more prepared you’re going to be for all of your future purchases.

For those who really need to know when you should buy airfare tickets the universal answer is more often than not six o’clock on Tuesdays. Make sure that you be sure that you are doing this in the right time of the head office of whatever airline you happen to be buying plane tickets through. For the majority of of the top air carriers this is when they update their software with the new airfare tickets available for purchase. At the present time the airlines will release these seats incredibly early (from 6 months up to a year in advance or more), to truly take full advantage of this tactic you’ll need to plan in advance. Do not forget that nearly all big airlines have got quite a few offices in all of the of the major places that they travel to. For this reason you will need to see whether the seats set come through the home office itself, or alternatively the national representative at the departure place. If uncertain, try both of them and see exactly what the variance is. If there is not any recognizable variance regarding what are cheapest times to fly use farecast (as mentioned above).

When to buy flight tickets is under no circumstances the only real point to think about when looking for a cheap airfare. There’s a lot of swindles, cheats and strategies which you may use which will produce much better savings. If you want insanely cheap plane tickets, computer errors and network region differences can change a 4 digit airfare into a three digit flight quite easily.
